In a thrilling display of innovation and talent at the 2024 National Finals of the F1 in Schools Competition, the BESIX Watpac sponsored team from The Grange P – 12 College in Victoria clinched the Chair of Judges Recognition of Achievement Award in Adelaide this month.

F1 in Schools, a global competition that mirrors the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing, provides students with a platform to explore engineering and manufacturing disciplines.

Al Crosby, BESIX Watpac's General Manager for Victoria and South Australia, expressed pride in the exceptional efforts of the five students who worked tirelessly to secure victory at the state championships and advance to the national level. He underscored the company's sponsorship of the AA JET team as a testament to its dedication to fostering STEM education and nurturing young talent.

"Bright, innovative minds are indispensable for an evolving construction industry, and we aspire to inspire young individuals to pursue avenues where innovation thrives," Mr Crosby said.

David Smillie, Principal of The Grange P – 12 College expressed his gratitude towards BESIX Watpac’s support saying the school community eagerly anticipates the enhancement of further student opportunities through the relationship.

"Success in the F1 in Schools Competition is just the beginning of our STEM journey spanning from Prep to Year 12. Through our partnership with BESIX Watpac, we foresee tremendous opportunities to expand and enrich our current programs,” he said.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology like 3D CAD/CAM/CAE engineering design software, the AA JET team immersed themselves in the complexities of design, analysis, testing, and racing.

Competing against thirty-six other schools at the 2024 National Finals hosted at St Peter’s College in Adelaide, South Australia, the students made their mark with their creativity and commitment. Despite stiff competition, they earned recognition for their exceptional performance, receiving the Chair of Judges Recognition of Achievement Award.

BESIX Watpac’s Construction Manager in South Australia, Craig Bentley, attended the Finals alongside Mr Crosby to support all teams and reflected on the event as a resounding success for all involved.
